National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF)
The gun industry's trade association and manufacturer lobbying arm
Overview
Often called the "gun industry's trade association," the NSSF is less visible than the NRA but arguably more powerful in shaping federal legislation on behalf of manufacturers. While the NRA focuses on culture war politics and individual gun rights, the NSSF focuses on protecting the industry's business interests: liability shields, tracing data restrictions, and ensuring guns can be sold without market-disrupting regulations.
The NSSF organizes SHOT Show, the industry's massive annual trade show in Las Vegas that draws 50,000+ attendees. SHOT Show generates an estimated $88 million in economic activity for Las Vegas and represents the gun industry's annual opportunity to coordinate messaging and product strategy. It also runs the "FixNICS" campaign — a strategic move to support modest background check fixes while blocking more comprehensive reform.
